Tobacco budworms and whiteflies are the major pests in tobacco growing areas of Vietnam. Whiteflies do not only cause direct damage but transmit the Begomovirus to the tobacco plant. To control insectpests in tobacco plants, Vietnam Tobacco Institute has built a predictive model based on the Skybit, Fuzz and Degree Day models that run on Excel software. Based on the interaction between the insectpests, environmental conditions, tobacco plants, etc give forecast results and advise the best control. The results showed the accuracy of predict the budworms and whiteflies reached a range of 83.3 - 91.7% in Cao Bang, Gia Lai, Tay Ninh region, and the whiteflies in Cao Bang up 100%, and was similar to 2023. The degree day model had low accuracy when predict the whiteflies and aphids causing tobacco in Tay Ninh, and was the same in 2023. The accuracy of the prediction lowed when the temperature was higher than the Topt and TU. The predictive model with degree day was high accurate when the temperature was little change and within the growing temperature levels of insects. Based on the predictive results, we gave the best methods to effectively control the insect pests to damage, reduced the use of pesticides compared to years ago, increased yield and quality, and income for the farmers. In 2024, we effectively prevented the whiteflies, aphids and curl-top disease outbreak strongly in Lang Son and Gia Lai. This model gave the high predictive accuracy for the most insectpests on the tobacco plants.
