External parasites are a major concern in goat farming in Shiraz County, Fars Province, Iran. This study examines the prevalence and diversity of ectoparasites in goats over a nine-month period (December 2023 – September 2024). Out of 210 goats surveyed, 60 (28.6%) were infested with at least one parasite species. Ticks, particularly Hyalomma spp. (34.2%), were the most prevalent, followed by lice (Linognathus spp. 13.5%; Bovicola spp. 11.0%), fleas (Ctenocephalides spp. 14.3%), and keds (Melophagus ovinus 6.1%). Sarcoptes scabiei (sarcoptic mange) had the lowest prevalence (1.1%). Mixed infestations occurred in 30% of cases, indicating management shortcomings. Statistical analysis showed a significant correlation between infestation and sex (p < 0.05) but not age (p > 0.05). These results highlight the need for improved control measures to reduce economic losses in goat farming.
