INTRODUCTION- Enterically transmitted hepatitis A and E viruses are a major cause of epidemic and acute sporadic hepatitis in many developing countries in the world. Hepatitis A virus (HAV)often causes epidemics and frequent outbreaks, specially in India where there is over-crowding and lack of proper sanitation. Hepatitis E virus (HEV)is predominantly found in developing countries withinadequatesanitation facilities and it can cause fulminant hepatitis, particularly in pregnant women. Serological detection of IgM antibodies to HAV and HEV is the choice of diagnosis for acute infections. AIMS1. To find out the prevalence of Hepatitis A and Hepatitis E virus infections among acute hepatitis cases by IgM ELISA. 2. To analyse the seroprevalence of Hepatitis A and E with the biochemical markers of acute hepatitis.
