Algeria's semi-arid zones occupy a large part of the country's territory, and are faced with various environmental problems, including desertification, soil degradation and biodiversity loss. This study underlines the role of regenerative agriculture on carbon stocks and water retention, using their spatialization in the semi-arid region of Djelfa (central Algeria). The main objectives of this work are to: (i) quantify and map spatial variations in carbon stocks and useful reserves in surface horizons (0 - 30 cm) using GIS, in order to highlight suitable areas for enhanced carbon sequestration; and (ii) identify opportunities for the implementation of regenerative agricultural practices focusing on soil carbon sequestration. The results reveal that the combination of regenerative agriculture farming techniques with the specific vegetation and livestock conduction of the region study, improve soil health. Thus, soil carbon stocks can reach 45.6 ± 1.65 t ha-1, which is higher than the 37.06 ± 0.58 t C ha-1 found in bare land. Moreover, the increase in soil organic matter modifies the fundamental physical structure of the soil, which can result in a 46 mm increase in the soil's potential water retention capacity . This could lead farmers to reduce water inputs to maintain similar crop yields.
