Response of Boric Acid and Zinc Sulphate to Increase the Productivity of Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) cv. ‘Kufri Jyoti’

Abstract

The investigation was carried out on potato cv. ‘Kufri Jyoti’ at Agricultural Research Farm in the Department of Horticulture, School of Agriculture, Suresh Gyan Vihar University, Jaipur (Rajasthan) during rabi season of 2023-24. The experiment was laid out in Factorial Randomized Block Design which comprises sixteen treatment combinations included four different levels of boric acid (0, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3%) and four levels of zinc sulphate (0, 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6%) and treatments were replicated three times. The potato tubers were planted at 60 x 45 cm spacing in the month of October, 2023. The various concentrations of boric acid and zinc sulphate had significant effect on various vegetative growth, yield and quality parameters and the maximum (30.24 cm) and (45.41 cm) plant height, (6.20) and (11.14) branches per plant, (35.81) and (85.63) leaves per plant at 45 and 60 DAP, respectively and (14.50) tubers of 50-100 g) sized and (3.23) tubers of >100 g sized, highest (0.99 kg) tubers of 50-100 g sized and (0.43 Kg) tubers of >100 g sized tuber weight and (6.14 cm) diameter, (132.83 cm3) volume and (146.80 g) largest tuber weight and highest (39.53 t/ha) marketable size tuber yield, (23.95 %) dry matter, (21.39 %) starch and (29.64 mg/100 g) vitamin-C was recorded under boric acid @ 0.2% + zinc sulphate @ 0.4% treatment. The highest B: C ratio (3.21) was also recorded under boric acid @ 0.2 % + zinc sulphate @ 0.4 % treatment.
