Abstract

This study examines how digital record-keeping systems and modern valuation technologies (notably XRF and portable analyzers) affect gold-loan processing in co-operative credit societies in India. It investigates impacts on operational efficiency, transparency, risk management, borrower protection, and regulatory compliance in light of recent Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidance and national cooperative digitalisation initiatives. Using a mixed-methods design (survey of societies + case studies + expert interviews), the research evaluates adoption drivers and barriers, quantifies time/cost savings, and proposes a technology-governance framework for safe scale-up. Key findings (from literature and pilot data) suggest that standardised digital records and on site objective valuation reduce fraud and reconciliation time, strengthen LTV controls, and support RBI’s requirement for standardised valuation procedures — yet cost, training, and integration with legacy cooperative systems remain significant hurdles.
