zinc is one of the important trac elements related to health and disease .we designed a study of 145 patients to determine the extent of serum zinc in psoriasis ,seborrheic dermatitis , acne vulgaris , alopecia areata , and vitiligo , same numbers were served as healthy controls. It was significantly lower in acne cases 74.5 ± 14.7 ugm/lOOml., and alopecia 77 ± 12 ugm/lOOml and seborrheic dermatitis (0.82±0.27 ugm/lOOml ) as compared to healthy controls and Serum Zn was significantly higher in psoriasis 142.2±52.2 ugm/lOOml and vitiligo (0.82±0.27 ugm/lOOml ) as compare to control . There is a positive correlation (r=0.138 ) between serum zinc level and area of skin involvement in psoriasis , Seborrheic dermatitis were not statistically significant. In acne vulgaris the very severe cases had the lowest zinc levels measured in mg/L (0.67 ± 0.13 mg/L compared to mild, moderate and severe cases (0.73± 0.14, 0.75 ± .16 , alopecia multilocularis (AM) had significantly lower serum Zn (P=.000), as compare to alopecia Unilocularis (AU) patients ,serum Zn was lower in patients with active disease as compare to patients with stable vitiligo, (p=.118)These differences were not statistically significant .
