State of understanding on Vogan Sheep

Abstract
The Vogan Sheep is numerically the second sheep breed in Togo, but less known compared to the Djallonke Sheep. Historically, the breed is obtained by crossing the Djallonke ewe and the Sahelian Bali-Bali ram around the 1970s in south east Togo. Despite its tremendous morphobiometric and zootechnical performances compared to the Djallonke Sheep and its similarity with the Sahelian Sheep, the breed remains vulnerable in its traditional breeding system. Without development program, the breed is at risk of genetic erosion and loss of value in the context of climate change and breeding systems evolution in Togo.
