Antibiotic resistance and emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria represent a permanent danger to public health because of their rapid spread and the difficulty that doctors have in the treatment of the infection caused by these bacteria. The goal of this study is to evaluate the antibacterial activity of essential oils from two local aromatic plants (Artemisia herba alba Asso and Rosmarinus officinalis L) and their associations with different family of antibiotics againt six reference microbial strains (Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853, Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 4352, Bacillus cereus ATCC 11778 and Aspergillus niger 2CA936). The aromatogram (disks methods) was used to evaluate the activity of these essential oils, as well as the essential oil/antibiotic associations. The antimicrobial activity results showed strong activity for Artemisia herba alba Asso oil. on all strains, and moderate activity for Rosmarinus officinalis L oil, two types of interactions were observed during the EOs/ATBs association (indifferent and synergistic), the synergistic interactions concern the two plants with the majority of the strains tested. The use of essential oils in combination with antibiotics could therefore be an alternative to the excessive use of antibiotics in therapy to treat multidrug-resistant germ infections.
