STUDY ON SOME AGRONOMIC PRACTICES FOR BURLEY TOBACCO VARIETY KY14 IN ĐẮK LẮK, VIETNAM

Abstract

In order to improve the yield and quality of Burley KY14 tobacco in Đak Lak province, the Vietnam Tobacco Institute conducted field experiments in 2024 on three planting densities (24.000, 27.500, and 31.000 plants/ha) and three fertilizer formulas (P1: 160N:110P₂O₅:220K₂O, P2: 190N:110P₂O₅:260K₂O, P3: 220N:110P₂O₅:300K₂O kg/ha) under a split-plot design with three replications. In 2025, experiments were conducted on harvesting leaf numbers with three levels (24, 26, and 28 leaves/plant) under a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Results showed that planting density of 31,000 plants/ha with a fertilizer formula of 220N:110P₂O₅:300K₂O kg/ha had the highest cured leaf yield and grade 1+2 proportion, corresponding to 3.52 tons/ha and 91.5%. The nicotine content was 3.55%, reducing sugars 0.7%, and smoking quality score 36.8 points. Fix 26 leaves/plant resulted in the best yield and quality, with 3.33 tons/ha, grade 1+2: 87.1%, nicotine content: 3.12%, reducing sugars: 0.6%, and smoking score 33.4 points. Burley tobacco grown in Đak Lak exhibited typical Burley characteristics and was generally rated as fairly good. To improve yield and quality of Burley tobacco, the Đak Lak region have to grow a density of 31,000 plants/ha, fertilization at 220N:110P₂O₅:300K₂O, and harvesting 26 leaves/plant.
