Abstract

The development of metal-based anticancer agents has sparked considerable interest due to their distinct mechanisms of action compared to traditional organic compounds. Metal complexes, particularly those involving transition metals, offer a unique approach to cancer treatment, with the potential to overcome resistance associated with current chemotherapy drugs. This research paper presents the synthesis, characterization, and biological evaluation of a series of novel metal complexes, including those of copper, nickel, and platinum, as potential anticancer agents. The structural analysis was performed using UV-Vis spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The in vitro cytotoxic activity was assessed against various human cancer cell lines, including MCF-7 (breast cancer), A549 (lung cancer), and HeLa (cervical cancer), using the MTT assay. Additionally, flow cytometry was utilized to determine the ability of these complexes to induce apoptosis. The results demonstrate that certain metal complexes exhibit significant anticancer activity, highlighting their potential as therapeutic agents.
