The Role of AgNPs in Enhancing the Efficacy of Cypovirus1 in Controlling Sitophilus oryzae and Stegobium paniceum in northeastern of Egypt

Abstract

Two types of stored product beetles, the rice weevil and the bread beetle were collected from seven different locations across the Ismailia region in northeastern Egypt. The two pests attack stored products and cause financial losses through implausible post-harvest damage. In this research, the characteristics of the pests of the grains taken under study were determined. To isolate Cypovirus1, larvae of a maize piercing insect, which were infected with the virus, were collected from both living and dead maize plant stems in fields throughout the Ismailia region. The collected samples were subsequently analyzed for Cypovirus1 presence using TAS-ELISA and confirmed by RT PCR assays. Furthermore, we were investigated the effects of a biological virus compound, enhanced by spherical synthetic AgNps (with an average diameter of 36.32 nm), applied at different concentrations to grain pest larvae. The study measured both mortality rates and the extent of infection 48 and 72 hours post-treatment. We also used SDS-PAGE (Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate-Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis) to investigate how different concentrations of Cypovirus1 and AgNPs affected the protein profiles in both infected and uninfected larvae.
