This study quantitatively analysed the heavy metals and pesticides in five types of commonly consumed dried fish samples in Owerri, Imo State. Heavy metal was determined using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer and pesticides by Gas Chromatography. Heavy metals in Round fish, Stock fish, Cray fish, Catfish and Bonga fish showed highest values of 0.27±0.24, 0.04±0.01, 0.06±0.01, 0.06±0.03, and 0.02±00 mg/kg of Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Nickel (Ni), Mercury (Hg) and Arsenic (As) respectively. Residual Aldrin, Biphenyl, Carbofuran, Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), DichloroBiphenyl, Dichlorvos (2,2-dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate DDVP), Endosulfan, Published: 15 Sep 2025 doi:10.48047/AFJBS.7.9.2025.186-216 g-chlordane, Glyphosphate, and Hexachlorobenzene (HCB), Heptachlor, Isopropylamine, Lindane, p'p'-DDD, Profenofos, t-nonachlor were detected in varying concentrations in the dried fish samples. Concentrations of aldrin residues in the fish samples were in decreasing order; Stock fish (1.082 ±0.001 mg/kg) > Bonga fish (0.679±0.001mg/kg) > Crayfish (0.205±0.001 mg/kg) > Catfish (0.001±0.000mg/kg). Residual aldrin in three dried fish samples (Stock fish, Bonga fish, Crayfish) were above the maximum residue limits (MRLs) of 0.2 mg/kg for Aldrin. DDT residues were detected only in Crayfish and at concentration above MRL. All the fish samples presented residual amount of Dichlorvos (DDVP) with Stockfish recording the highest concentrations of 1.119±0.353mg/kg. However, the hazard index (HI) analysis of toxic metals showed that all the studied fish typed presented HI<1.0, indicating no appreciable chronic risk, however, Bonga fish presented the highest HI mean value of 0.228. Similarly, the HI for all the fish samples were below the threshold of 1.0, indicating no immediate non-carcinogenic health risks to adult consumers at current intake levels
