Abstract

Introduction: The COVID-19 virus has affected several physical systems within the human body, with recent reports revealing that these effects may extend to the endocrine system, particularly testosterone levels among males. Testosterone is a male sex hormone that plays a key role in the survival of diverse functions and has been found to have a relationship with the immune system and health in general. At the same time, earlier works suggested that COVID-19 infection was likely to worsen every circumstance that is known to affect testosterone secretion levels, however, a systematic evaluation is still absent. This research seeks to fill this gap by determining the extent to which testosterone levels in males are influenced by the severity of COVID-19 infection. Objective: To explore the degree of correlation that may exist between the level of COVID-19 infection and the circulating levels of testosterone among men examine in detail the differences in the values obtained and draw any useful conclusions. Results: The result of the research is expected to indicate significant differences in levels of testosterone that are associated with the degree of COVID-19 illness. In particular, it is anticipated that those who have severe cases of COVID-19 will have testosterone levels considerably lower than those who have mild or moderate forms of the disease with statistical significance. Conclusion: The outcomes of this relationship are considered to be significant and coronary artery disease plays a role in testosterone deficiency in COVID-19. This finding also points towards a new understanding of the impact of the outbreak on the male endocrine system and opens new research paths.
