Abstract

Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/starch films, highlighting their promise as sustainable, biodegradable alternatives for food packaging have been investigated. Addressingglobal concerns about environmental impact, the present paper emphasizes the uniquecombination of biodegradability, mechanical strength, and barrier propertiesinPVA/Starch films. Key components, PVA and starch, contribute to film-formingproperties and reinforcement. The study aligns these films with evolving food packagingtrends, emphasizing their versatility in meeting functionality and sustainability goals. Thepaper covers film preparation method, characterization techniques, and a diverserangeof experiments including swelling, water sorption, antibacterial activity, mechanical properties, and soil burial degradation. Expected outcomes target the development ofPVA/Starch/ZnO and PVA/Gelatin/ZnO films with varied compositions, showcasingfavourable characteristics for food packaging applications.
