Abstract

Background: Diabetic retinopathy is the most common microvascular complication of diabetes that considers a highly specific neurovascular complication of both type1 and type 2 diabetes. As the disease progresses, it may evolve into proliferative diabetic retinopathy, which is defined by the presence of neovascularization and has a greater potential for serious visual consequences. Hyperglycemia results in damage to retinal capillaries. This weakens the capillary walls and results in small outpunching’s of the vessel lumens, known as micro aneurysms
