OSA raises the odds of severe COVID-19 infection

Abstract

OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) is a sleep-related breathing disorder considered as a factor which aggravates several diseases. The physician’s awareness of the presence of OSA helps to predict the prognosis in COVID-19 infected patients. In this study, our aim was to evaluate whether or not OSA related parameters were associated with severe COVID-19 infection.we assessed a population searched by outpatient’s electronic medical record database from COVID-19 patients from Chettinad Health City. A STOP BANG questionnaire was circulated to the study population of 115 sample size selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria from OSA diagnosed outpatients. The results were analysed and Chi square test was used to show that there is statistical significance between days taken to recover from COVID-19.
